25-11-2011 | M/v Plancius encounters Emperors
During PLA22 the team spend a day wit activities on the South Shetland Islands, and continued from there the Weddell Sea. Three full days in ice clogged waters , a pod of spy-hopping and hunting orcas and 8 emperor penguins , all in sunshine and great light! The ship made it as far as Seymour approaching from the East side. Snow Hill was due to ice unreachable. On the way North the expedition had fabulous ( not always guaranteed) landing at Cape Lookout on Elephant Islands where Shackleton’s men had to struggle for survival. The itinerary ended on the Falklands Islands with an extraordinary call at remote Steeple Jason Island, the largest black-browed albatross colony in the world.
