Molchanov and Multanovskiy return to Ushuaia

14.00 hrs CET: Professor Molchanov is about 370 nm away from the entrance to the Beagle Channel. The return journey, and in fact the total trip to South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula has been a great success. The weather has been good more or less all the way too. No wind and a bit of sun comming through every now and then. The landing with hardly any swell at  Baily Head at Deception Island was successful in order to see the huge Chinstrap rookery there. Both male and female penguins have gathered to start their nesting.
The ship navigated through Neptunes Bellows just to experience the sail into the vulcano and then headed south towards Port Lockroy for the next morning. Port Lockroy was a little overcast but with high cloud. All the mountains were beautiful to watch and the penguins busy with their first eggs. The afternoon at Paradise Bay was spent for Zodiac cruising in Skontorp Cove. Great with all the ice and no wind at all. Highlights was a mother and pup Weddell Seal on an ice floe. Not so often we are lucky enough to see that. The first short landing at the Continent followed at Almirante Brown with a climb up to the view point for the spectacular panorama of Paradise Bay.
The last expedtion day started with Neko Harbour in the very early morning. A lot of snow makes it difficult for the penguins to get started nesting. A polar plunge was organized at the end of the landing but only four passengers dared the dip in the cold water.
A landing at Cuverville Island was not possible due to a lot of ice on the western side , a zodiac cruise was offered instead. The expedition spotted the first and only Leopard seal playing around the Zodiacs and a lot of ice. In summary, a great trip.
