ECO Logical

Eco Logical is a concept that has been initiated by Oceanwide Expeditions. 

Since 1996, Oceanwide Expeditions has been organizing trips to the impressive Arctic and Antarctica. The Polar Regions are without any doubt the last wildernesses on earth. Oceanwide Expeditions has been taken care of the environment from the beginning. Naturally, we strictly obey the International rules related to the agreements made by the Antarctic Treaty partners, international conventions for passenger vessels including MARPOL guidelines (prevention of pollution from ships) and are a full member of IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators), a member organisation establishing rules and guidelines to practice safe and environmentally responsible travel to the Antarctic Region and South Georgia.

We are all aware of the fact that motor expedition vessels consume a considerable amount of fuel. Our vessel “Plancius” is not an exception, but the vessel was carefully selected for its economical consumption. Compared with our existing fleet of 53 passengers, we have been able to reduce the fuel consumption per passenger by
30 %. 

But, we also work on new developments in the field of sustainability. On board “Plancius” we are pleased to introduce our “Eco Logical” line, offering and using ecological products, such as a 100% biodegradable water bottle. You can fill it yourself on board to prevent unnecessary waste of plastic bottles.  The principle is simple, to reduce waste and to minimize the impact on the environment. We also support “fair-trade” products.

The following products are used on board:

• Green culture shampoo and soap
• Pure ecological cleaning products
• Detergents with European eco-certification
• Douwe Egberts fair trade coffee
• Organic house wines

We would also like to draw your attention to the 100% recyclable polo shirt, available in our shop. This is just a start and a lot can still be improved and introduced. New initiatives, developments and products will be presented to you in the near future.
