Cape Verde

The islands are all very different in landscape and some even in climate. The island of Fogo is volcanically the most active of all the islands.

Cape Verde is located at Latitude 27º North, which means the archipelago is situated within the Tropics. The climate on Cape Verde is milder though, less hot than the climate of the African mainland due to the fact that the islands are surrounded by ocean. The summer temperatures range from 25º to 29º C (77º to 84ºF). The islands see little rain and are therefore dry to very dry.

Mount Fogo, 2829 metres (9280 feet) high, is the highest peak of Cape Verde. The volcano is still active: it last erupted in 1675. Near its peak is a caldera, inside of which is a village. The capital of Cape Verde is the city of Praia, on the island of Sao Tiago (Santiago).

Cape Verde cruise reviews

Antártida

The 33 day voyage certainly met expectations with external activities, most lectures and "hotel" services excellent. Passengers should understand that there is little opportunity for exercise on the Hondius. As suggestions for a 5-star rating: - organised guiding for bird watching on board - even if for set periods only - QA for some weak lectures, perhaps attended by other staff who could review content for future voyages
The Atlantic Odyssey, from Ushuaia to Cape Verde, is, for birders, one of the 'must do' expeditions. It's just over a month long but seawatching between islands is often good, and when it isn't, the quality of on-board presentations is outstanding. We were able to access all.islands and see all key bird species with just one exception. Expedition leader was excellent, as was the entire expedition team, in maximising off-ship activities. Food, cabins and WiFi all very good. Overall, an excellent expedition which I thoroughly enjoyed. I can't wait to do Svalbard with Oceanwide soon!

Antártida

Very good cruise except Ascension island that we could not land. Would be interested in Ross sea cruise in the future.
It was my first visit to the Southern Ocean and I'm grateful I choose Oceanwide Expeditons to do so. Amazing Team and fabulous itinerary.

Antártida

Excellent

Antártida

Friendly & knowledgable staff. Interesting talks particularly from the US Army Commander of Ascension during the Falklands conflict and the UK Manager from Cable & Wireless in the 1960s. I would have liked to see a map of the route of the ship and our progress whilst we were travelling.

About Cape Verde

Weather of Cape Verde

Cape Verde has a dry, semi-arid climate. Due to the surrounding oceans, it is milder than the African mainland. Heavy rainfall occurs at certain times of year, with monsoon events infrequent but possible. Depending on what island you visit, you will encounter different environments and weather possibilities. Generally, average temperatures range from 20 °C (72 °F) to 28 °C (80.6 °F).

Dress appropriately depending on the activities you will be engaged in. Be wary of the sun, and prepare for swift changes in conditions if in interior and elevated areas.

Facts about Cape Verde
